Zanzibar is the part where nothing is scheduled and nobody needs to be up before sunrise. Where to Stay on the Zanzibar Side
Zanzibar isn't one beach, it's several, and they're different enough that it's worth picking on purpose rather than by whichever hotel photo looked nicest.
Nungwi — the busiest of the north-coast beaches, good for nightlife and watersports.
Kendwa — quieter than Nungwi but close enough to visit, with a beach that keeps its sand at both tides.
Matemwe — calmer, closer to the reef, better for snorkeling than partying.
Kiwengwa — long stretches of beach, generally family-friendly.
Makunduchi — furthest south, least developed, if you want to feel like you're away from other tourists.

What's Actually Included When You Book Both Together
Booking the safari and the beach stay as one itinerary, rather than two separate bookings, is where most of the value shows up. It's not just convenience — it changes who's responsible if something goes wrong with the connecting flight, and it usually means a single, all-inclusive price instead of two quotes you have to reconcile yourself.
When we build a combined package, the price covers the vehicle, guide, park fees, accommodation and meals for the safari portion, and accommodation for the beach portion, with the domestic transfer between them arranged as part of the same itinerary. International flights, visas, and anything booked independently on Zanzibar (a private boat trip, for example) sit outside that price, same as on any safari-only trip.
As a rough guide for UK travellers budgeting ahead, a combined safari and Zanzibar package typically starts from around £1,800–£2,500 per person for seven days, all-inclusive on the safari leg with beach accommodation on top — though this shifts a fair amount with lodge category, season and how many days you spend on each side.
How Many Days Do You Actually Need?
Seven days is the realistic minimum if you want more than a token stop on each side — three or four in the parks, three or four on the beach. Ten to twelve days is more comfortable if this is a once-in-a-while trip and you don't want to feel like you're racing the calendar. Anything under six days tends to mean either a rushed safari or a rushed beach stay, and it's usually the safari that gets cut short, which is the part most people regret trimming.
