All Inclusive Africa Safari: What You're Actually Getting (And Why It's Worth It)

All Inclusive Africa Safari: What You're Actually Getting (And Why It's Worth It).

An all-inclusive African safari sounds expensive at first glance. Until you do the maths. Then it starts looking rather sensible.

The premise is simple: you pay a set rate per person that covers your accommodation, all meals (depending on the day’s selection), excellent game-drive activities, and transfers from one destination to another. Everything is included in one clear price. No surprise bills when the lodge serves sundowners, and no wondering whether you can afford an extra guided walk because your activity budget has already been spent.

But what matters even more than the cost savings — and what many travelers often overlook — is the experience itself. As Amshar Serengeti Adventures, our focus is not only on value, but on creating a seamless, memorable safari where every detail is thoughtfully taken care of from start to finish.

What Actually Comes With the Package

When you book an all inclusive Africa safari at a quality lodge, you are getting far more than just accommodation.

Your stay also includes carefully prepared meals that blend authentic local flavours with international culinary standards, ensuring comfort and quality throughout your journey. Accommodation options range from comfortable canvas tents with proper beds and en-suite bathrooms in malaria-free regions such as the Eastern Cape, to luxury lodges featuring private plunge pools and breathtaking views across the plains.

The lunch box or hamper is usually prepared by the lodge and taken along for the game drive safari

The game drives themselves are where most of the magic happens. You are enjoying the expertise of professional safari guides who have spent years understanding wildlife behaviour and creating exceptional game-viewing experiences. A morning drive departs at first light at 6 a.m., depending on the lodge location and season. You’ll travel in a private open-roof vehicle with an experienced guide who knows the park as well as you know your own neighborhood. You're searching for lions, elephants, leopards, buffalo, rhinos. The Big Five. But also the smaller encounters: a giraffe folding its impossibly long legs to drink at a waterhole, hyenas calling in the distance, a secretary bird strutting through the grass like it owns the place.

We normally offer full-day game drives from morning until evening to maximize wildlife viewing and give guests the best safari experience possible. However, clients are always welcome to suggest and plan their preferred game drive schedule according to their interests and comfort. Our professional guide will then advise based on the specific park, wildlife movement, and their experience in that reserve to ensure the best possible sightings and experience throughout the safari.

What "Drinks" Actually Means (And Doesn't)

This is worth clarifying, because it catches people out. An all-inclusive safari includes soft drinks, and mineral water.  What's typically excluded: beer, wines, spirits, and cocktails made with top-shelf liquor. Most lodges make excellent cocktails with what's included, so this rarely feels like a limitation.

What You’re Actually Paying For

All-inclusive safari pricing varies depending on the destination, season, lodge tier, and group size—which is why most quality operators work on a custom-quote basis rather than a fixed price list. What matters is understanding what the rate covers, because the scope is broader than most people expect. A well-structured all-inclusive package typically includes:

  • Accommodation

  • All meals and standard drinks

  • Full-day game drives with a professional guide

  • Most activities (walking safaris, nature talks, some specialist activities cost extra) are optional

  • Airport transfers is optional we high recommend to minimize cost on clients’ side

  • Park entrance fees

  • Hot Air Balloon is optional though we highly recommend

  • Government taxes and fees

If you tried to book the same components separately—private guide, accommodation, all meals, park fees, transfers—the total would likely exceed an all-inclusive rate, and you’d take on all the coordination yourself. On a package, that’s handled. You arrive, you’re briefed, you safari.

Why All-Inclusive Makes Sense for First-Timers

For first-time safari travelers, an all-inclusive package removes the stress and uncertainty of planning. You do not have to worry about choosing the right parks, deciding the best time to visit, or questioning whether your accommodation will be safe, comfortable, and well located.

Everything is carefully arranged for you — from expertly guided game drives and optional safari activities to meal schedules that are perfectly timed around wildlife viewing experiences. Instead of managing separate costs, you can simply enjoy the journey without constantly thinking about your budget for activities such as guided walks or hot air balloon safaris.

Our experienced safari teams also understand the best seasons for each destination. The dry season often provides exceptional wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources, while the green season offers lush landscapes, dramatic scenery, and outstanding birdlife. With professional guidance and seamless planning, you are free to focus entirely on the experience and the unforgettable moments that make a safari truly special.

Potential Downsides (If You're Considering Them)

The main trade-off is flexibility. On a package, you wake when the drive departs. Meals are served at set times. If you want to explore Stone Town on Zanzibar, you'll need to build that into the itinerary separately (which is why many travellers combine safari with a beach add-on).

Your safari is fully private, meaning you will not share the vehicle or guide with other guests. The experience is dedicated entirely to you and your group, giving you maximum flexibility and comfort throughout the game drives.

Is It Actually Worth Booking?

Yes, provided you choose the right lodge for your budget and priorities. A quality all-inclusive safari lodge in East Africa handles the hard parts of travel: logistics, safety, knowledge, and comfort. What you handle is showing up and paying attention.

That combination—expert guidance, predictable costs, excellent food, and twice-daily access to one of Earth's greatest wildlife spectacles—is difficult to replicate any other way.
